Dear Life Noter,

The past few weeks have been full of exciting updates at Life Note.

First, I’d love to introduce you to Sergio Rodriguez Castillo — a Life Note user, licensed psychotherapist, and university professor. Sergio has played a key role in shaping Life Note’s product design over the past year.

Our connection was pure synchronicity. His work sits at the intersection of spirituality and psychology — the same frontier Life Note is exploring.

Here’s what Sergio shared about the power of journaling, and why he believes Life Note offers something deeper than other AI tools.

As a licensed psychotherapist and university professor, I’ve encouraged clients and students for decades to keep journals as one of the best tools for self-awareness.

When AI journaling apps began appearing, clients quickly brought them up. I was curious and tried several. Most had the now well-known problem of sycophantic responses. That changed when I found Life Note. It strikes a rare balance—offering support with gentle nudges and thoughtful invitations to reflect.

One of the common objections I hear is that journaling is time-consuming and difficult to sustain as a daily habit. Life Note makes it easier and more rewarding, with features like the weekly mentor reflection that encourage consistency.

What sets it apart, in my opinion, are the mentors. Journaling is usually a private process, with little to no feedback. Having the voices of luminaries from different fields comment on my writing has been a game changer—deepening the experience and helping me gain insights beyond my own words.

I also appreciate the feature of “chatting with my past self,” which lets me track how my thinking evolves over weeks and months—something nearly impossible with traditional journals.

Finally, Daniel’s responsiveness to feedback makes it feel collaborative, as though we’re shaping Life Note together into an even more useful tool for self-exploration.

I’m genuinely excited about the future of Life Note, and I see AI journaling not as a replacement for therapy, but as a powerful tool to complement to it.

If you ever find yourself at a crossroads or in need of deeper clarity, Sergio offers one-on-one sessions to help people find meaning, purpose, and clarity in their lives.

During our conversations, he shared how he tailors his guidance to each client — asking whether they want to be challenged with direct honesty or supported with gentle encouragement.

That insight inspired one of our newest features: Guidance Mode.

✨ New: Guidance Mode

Now you can choose how your mentors guide you:

  • Healer: Gentle encouragement and warmth to support emotional healing.
  • Warrior: Direct truth and challenge for clarity and strength.
  • Seeker: Balanced wisdom — your mentor’s most natural, authentic voice.

Seeker Mode is the default you’ve been using. I’ve personally been switching between Warrior and Healer depending on how I want to be met in that moment. It’s surprisingly powerful.

Please share with me what you think of this guidance mode, or join our discord to share your thoughts!

💬 A Life Note Story

Recently, a user shared on Reddit that after two years of therapy and trying several AI tools that felt scripted, he finally found Life Note — and for the first time, he was able to cry, reconnect with his emotions, and truly feel again.

This story really strengthens my conviction towards what we are building here. The tools we are building won’t replace therapy, but it will actullay complement it and introduce more people to the practice of self-awareness and to human therapy as well.

 Other New Features

I almost felt guilty placing all these updates at the end — each one was suggested by longtime Life Note users and makes your journaling practice deeper, more personal, and more flexible.

Add-on Wisdom

  • You can now save your thoughts first and receive mentor responses later. Perfect for days when you just want to write freely without waiting for feedback.

Highlight & Add to Prompt Library

  • When a mentor’s words touch something deep, you can now save them as journaling prompts for your future reflection. (Thank you to our longtime Hong Kong user Season Lai — a 10-year journaling veteran — for this idea.)

Mentor Response Upgrades

  • Mentors now refer more to their own works (books written, core mental models, etc), rather than just personal stories.
  • When multiple mentors reply, they’ll also share where their views align or differ.
  • Mentors can now follow up on previous advice given to you, creating continuity.
  • In Chat Mode, mentors now sound more natural, with response length adjusting to your depth of input.

If you ever want to give feedback and chat about the future of Life Note, you can book time with me here

With Love,

Daniel

Life Noter,

Life Note

💬 Life Note

Namaste,

Daniel
