About the Author
寫作是認真生活過後才會發生的事情.
Writing is something that happens after living life earnestly.
My Value
This is an ongoing self-reflection where I think about my core values and what truly matters to me in order to live a fulfilled life.
Authenticity
"The best way to escape competition—to get away from the specter of competition, which is not just stressful and nerve-wracking but also will drive you to the wrong answer—is to be authentic to yourself." Naval Ravikant
Definition: being genuine and true to oneself and aligning actions with beliefs.
Authenticity is my #1 value, I've learned in life that if one's not honest with oneself, everything else will become artificial. Finding your why and being honest with your motivation should be the number 1 priority for everyone, it should not be trying to live up to others' expectations, or prestige, or trying to create an image that pleases your ego.
I believe the only good reason for people to work together is that they all believe in something passionately together and they share the same motivation towards building something for the future, and this requires authenticity from everyone involved.
Everyone is living their life for their own purpose, whether it is just for survival, for living a better life, or for a grander scheme of life, it does not matter. All my valuable relationships and memories that happened in life are credited to authenticity.
I constantly do work that can increase my self-awareness and try to surround myself with people who are honest with themselves. I believe this is the path towards meaningful work and meaningful relationships, and ultimately, a life with fulfilment and admirable work.
Balance yet Successful
"A fit body, a calm mind, a house full of love. These things cannot be bought - they must be earned." Naval Ravikant
Balance is strangely something I care about a lot. Maybe it's because I've tried to chase things at all costs and sacrificed friendship and family before, but I have found that a balanced life does not mean you can't be extraordinary. You can be healthy mentally and physically while achieving personal success! I think we are all too driven by the media-portrayed image of success, in which brilliant people are always struggling to live a happy life. But I think it's important and it's time we start changing those images of success, for the better of humanity.
Growth
"Status games are multiplayer, zero-sum, hierarchical, judged socially. Get grades, applause, titles now - emptiness later. Natural games are single player, positive-sum, internal, judged by nature/markets. Pay in pain now - get wealth, health, knowledge, peace, family later." Naval Ravikant
I believe in a world that's made better when everyone believes in growth. People are suffering because the knowledge of wealth is not widespread and well-shared. We are still at the beginning of infinity, we should continue to share the growth anywhere possible, be it workplace, home, or school.
My Work Preference
My best work comes from collaborating with people who share similar values, and I seek to work with people who can complement each other's weaknesses and strengths.
I'm an ENFP and I tend to shift around two quadrants - Director and Promoter.
Directors
Directors have strong opinions about the “right” answer and a bias toward rapid action because they care a lot about getting to the right outcomes quickly. They’re great at establishing a vision, but they want everyone to fall behind it. Often, they do the work themselves because they don’t enjoy building processes, or they dictate precisely what steps need to be taken, which can be disempowering for others.
Promoters
Promoters are charismatic and people-oriented. They tend to have a lot of ideas and the ability to articulate an inspiring narrative. They don’t like details or administration and are usually great starters but not always finishers. Overall, they can see the big picture and excel at inspiring others and building relationships.
My Super Power
I believe in the mental model of superpower and shadow, and a great team has complementary traits and exercises conscious mutual awareness to make everyone better.
Love of Learning
I want to understand things deeply. I enjoy studying new topics purely for the sake of learning and better understanding. I like to go deep on subject matters that can help me make deeper connections with the world.
Awareness
I'm attuned to people's emotions and motivations and am able to fit into many social situations as a result. I'm acutely aware of people's physical expressions of emotions, which allows me to sense moods that might go unnoticed by others. I'm an abstract social thinker, who recognizes similarities and patterns and uses this information to identify emotional ties with groups.
Storytelling
I believe the best way to make the product is to tell the stories of the products. A good story 1) makes complicated concepts simple 2) appeals to the rational and emotional side of people 3) reminds people of the problem that’s being solved
Entrepreneurship
I'm highly self-driven and operate like an entrepreneur. I've always played the role of a problem-solving generalist wherever I go. I would love to become an entrepreneur one day and solve a mission-driven problem that's important to my life.
My Shadow
People-pleasing
Having higher social intelligence also means sometimes you can care too much about how others perceive you. This is something I've been working on constantly, to not live to create an image to meet people's expectations, but to really become who I am.
Not Confrontational
Being a friendly collaborator as I am, I sometimes struggle to directly challenge or confront people I work with as I care too much how what others feel. It's something I'm also constantly working on to be direct and truthful whenever possible.
Neglect Details and Dislike Process
As someone who loves to tell stories of products, I might sometimes neglect the importance of standardized process and execution details. It's something that's not in my zone of genius but I'm continuously trying to get a perspective of when and where I should become good at this to help my team.
Struggle to Delegate
As someone who cares a lot about the quality of work, I sometimes might mistrust others for accomplishing things that are of my standards. I know this will eventually limit my scale of impact so I'm also learning to delegate things that matters less out.
